Each flat mica side or facet involves precision cutting and edge finishing, all done by hand. Seams and edges are finished with handcut, handcolored, archival, textured paper. The seam finishes are mitered at corners, and otherwise custom-fit to your lampshade design.
Paper seams and edge trims produce an extremely secure and integrated finish, create a light-weight lampshade, and offer endless possibilities for trim color.
See table below for some examples of prices, which are based on size, shape, and the number of mica pieces in the shade.
Additionally, curved panels, and round and oval shades, all involve heating and molding of the mica.
Pricing is for custom-made, stenciled shades, except for chandelier shades and half shades which are priced unstenciled. For prices of plain shades in other categories subtract 15% from the listed price.
Lampshade costs will additionally include the actual cost of insured shipping to you, and will vary with the order. There is a $6 handling charge per package for our careful packing of your order.
The steel wire frames in our lampshades are custom made for us in California, otherwise all construction is done in Oregon. Stencils are our original designs, taken from period traditions, and can be re-sized to fit your shade size and shape. Stencil colors can be altered to meet your decorating palette.
